Our Mission
Helping People in Recovery Move Beyond Surviving and Start Thriving
At As Well, our mission is simple: To teach people how to live as authentically as possible while doing themselves the least amount of harm. We want to help people move beyond survival and toward a life they genuinely want to live.
Recovery can provide someone with the tools to begin changing their life—but figuring out how to actually live that life can be an entirely different challenge. As Well was created because we saw a gap.
There are programs designed to help people get sober. There are treatment centers, support groups, therapists, and recovery communities doing incredibly important work. But recovery doesn't happen only inside those spaces. Eventually, you have to go home. You have to navigate relationships, responsibilities, stress, loneliness, uncertainty, triggers, and all of the ordinary—and sometimes extraordinary—challenges that come with being human.
We believe people not only deserve support for that part, too - and that support is crucial.
Where Recovery Meets the Wild
That's where As Well is different. We take recovery outside. Through immersive wilderness retreats, As Well gives people in recovery the opportunity to step away from the noise of everyday life and reconnect—with nature, with other people, and most importantly, with themselves. The wilderness gives us room to do something powerful. To slow down. To get uncomfortable. To try something new. To laugh. To fail. To try again. To sit around a fire and have an honest conversation. To accomplish something you weren't sure you could do. And sometimes, to remember who you are outside of everything you've been through.
More Than a Retreat
The As Well Experience (AWE) isn't about escaping real life. It's about becoming better prepared to return to it. Our retreats combine wilderness experiences with peer support, practical coping and life skills, personal coaching, recovery and reentry tools, meaningful connection, and opportunities for participants to challenge themselves in a safe and supportive environment. The goal isn't perfection. It's progress. We want participants to leave with more confidence in themselves, stronger connections with others, practical tools they can use when life gets difficult, and a clearer sense of what they want their lives to look like moving forward.
What We Believe
We believe recovery should be about more than what you're giving up. It should also be about what you're gaining. Connection. Confidence. Community. Adventure. Purpose. Laughter. Self-trust. And hope. We believe people are capable of creating meaningful lives after addiction. We believe nature has an incredible ability to create space for reflection, connection, challenge, and growth. We believe healing doesn't always have to happen inside four walls. And we believe nobody should have to figure out what comes next alone. Recovery isn't the end of someone's story. It can be the beginning of an entirely new one. At As Well, we're creating a community where people can explore what that next chapter looks like—one conversation, one challenge, one connection, and one adventure at a time. We want to help people be well, As Well.
